Longford County Archives Service
To collect, preserve and make accessible, the archival heritage of County Longford.
What are Archives?
Archives are primary sources. They are evidence of human activity, worthy of long-term preservation. They come in various formats and media including paper records, maps, plans, photographs, drawings, sound recordings, film and electronic records (e.g. on computer disks).
What about Archives in Longford?
Longford County Council employs an Archivist in accordance with its statutory obligations under the Local Government Acts of 1994 and 2001. The Archivist is responsible for the care of the archives and records of Longford County Council, the archives of the predecessor bodies (see below) and some collections of private origin.
Archival collections are available for public consultation in the reading room of County Library Headquarters.
