'Invasives Ireland' smartphone app
INVASIVES IRELAND SMARTPHONE APP
Longford Heritage Office in partnership with the Heritage Council, the National Biodiversity Data Centre and Invasive Species Ireland, have launched a smartphone app for both iOS and Android devices to provide information on invasive alien plant and animal species in Ireland. Invasive species are non-native plants and animals that have no natural predators or controls in our environment, allowing them to grow and spread unhindered. This can cause devastation to our native biodiversity as well as our infrastructure in some cases. This free app gives information on dozens of species that may be found both in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, as well as an opportunity to report a potential sighting.
