Spectacle and Performance Training Opportunity

Longford Arts Office and partners are inviting artists to participate in a four-day training workshop to develop greater understanding and skills of Spectacle-Making and Street Performance. This opportunity is part of a new regional spectacle training network focused on supporting spectacle capacity in rural counties. The programme is funded by local authority Arts Offices in Longford, Cavan, Sligo, Roscommon, Offaly, Laois and Louth.

 

The training will be administered by Longford Arts Office and delivered by Spraoi Waterford– the renowned spectacle production company. The training will be focused on skilling artists in design, prop making, costuming and street performance.  This is a hands-on, collaborative training experience with an emphasis on peer-to-peer learning. Intended outcomes from the training is that participants will have greater understanding of core principles of spectacle / street performance and will be introduced to a network of peer artists with similar interests and work practices.

 

Workshop Details

  • Sat 21st & Sun 22nd Mar
  • Sat 18th & Sun 19th Apr
  • All training will take place in Longford Town, 9.30-5.30pm daily.
  • Pax will be paid an honorarium of €140 to attend the four days.
  • Pax have option to stay overnight on 21st Mar & 18th Apr.
  • Lunch / evening meal provided.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • An artist / maker with some prior experience of Spectacle or Festival or Community Arts (Making or Performing) .
  • Reside in one of the networks participating counties (Longford, Roscommon, Cavan, Sligo, Louth, Offaly, Laois)
  • Have an interest in further developing spectacle making / street performance skills.

Requirements:

  • Complete application form and submit CV.
  • Be available to attend all four workshop days.
  • Be 18 years or older.
  • A working knowledge of spoken English language.
  • Ability to engage in moderately physical training activities and tasks.
