This parish lies on the east shore of Lough Ree, in the barony of Rathcline. It is bounded by the parishes of Rathcline, Kilcormick and Shrule.

It is nearly circular in form and contains 15,859 acres. The land is of rather a superior quality. It is well intersected with roads and contains a demesne, a neat Church, and a splendid Roman Catholic Chapel.
