Longford Nua is a pilot community mapping project for Longford Town. The purpose of the project is to give locals a platform to share stories about places, make suggestions about how vacant buildings can be reused, and inspire the community to engage with the process of regenerating the town.

Space Engagers, a social enterprise, in conjunction with the Longford URBACT group has created the Longford Nua App for the project. The App will be launched at 3pm on Friday, July 28th in the main building of Connolly Barracks. The idea for the project came from the URBACT’s local group in Longford, which was established in January 2017 as part of the MAPS (Military Assets as Public Spaces) Project. The Longford URBACT group is the leader in Longford town’s participation in a major European programme that will help to plan the regeneration of Connolly Barracks.

The founders of Space Engagers, Aoife Corcoran and Philip Crowe, will be visiting #Longford in the coming weeks to promote the app and are excited to meet with the community! Community involvement is key for the success of the #LongfordNuaApp. Philip Crowe declared that ‘It is an opportunity for people in Longford to gather together their knowledge of the past and present of their town, and to re-imagine what possibilities may lay ahead for igniting creative use of existing space’.
