Ireland and Longford in Times of War and Revolution, 1914-23

The Ireland and Longford in Times of War and Revolution, 1914-23 schools pack is a project of the County Longford Decade of Centenaries Programme.

Helpful for fifth and sixth class primary schools students up to Junior Certificate students, the pack contains two booklets covering the major events in Irish history.

The first booklet, World War I The Great War, covers topics such as life in Ireland and Longford and life for women during the First World War.

The second booklet, Events in Ireland 1916-23, covers the Easter Rising of 1916, political change from 1916-18, the War of Independence, 1919-21, the Treaty of 1921, and the Civil War, 1922-23.

Both booklets were written by local teacher Eamonn Brennan. Eamonn is involved in the Heritage in Schools programme and is a member of the Decade of Centenaries Working Group.

The project was funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, and work on the booklet on the First World War was funded by the Heritage Council.
