Archives and Local Studies

Archives

Longford County Archives Service works to preserve a vital part of the collective memory of County Longford. The service is based in County Library Headquarters, where it shares a research room with the Local Studies Department of the library. Archives are quite literally the stuff of history! They include letters, diaries, accounts, maps, plans, drawings, photographs, film, sound recordings and electronic records. As part of its work, the service makes these accessible to the public, helping people to discover local or family history.

It also holds a major collection of local newspapers both on microfilm and in hardcopy.
