Terms and Conditions

Applications are invited for the Short Film Bursary Award from teams comprising an individual writer, director and producer. Each person in the team would be expected to have previous experience in their relevant role in a funded short. 

The online application system does not accept attachments. Please ensure you email your mandatory documents and any other documents you wish to be submitted as part of your application to artsoffice@longfordcoco.ie.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, 20 December 2024. No late applications will be considered.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are accepted from teams of three people, which must comprise an individual Writer, Producer and Director. The team members must be habitually resident in Ireland. One member of the team must be originally from County Longford or reside in the county. Applicants must be 18 years of age or over. Each member must have been previously involved in the making of a funded short film in their relevant role. Screenplays may be no longer than 12 pages and must be in industry-standard format. Films must be based and shot in County Longford. The films applied with can be English or Irish, but if it is an Irish language script, an English translated script must also be provided.

Writers must submit a signed declaration of ownership of all materials. This is a document stating that the screenplay submitted is original work.

We welcome applications from people under-represented in the film industry, including disabled people and ethnically diverse people, people from low socio-economic backgrounds and others with protected characteristics.

In-Eligibility Criteria

  • An incomplete form will make an application ineligible.
  • The purchase of equipment.
  • General marketing, administration costs and utilities.
  • Activities or costs that do not fit the purpose of the award.
  • Activities that are an intrinsic part of, or directly related to, ongoing formal education.
  • Activities undertaken for charity-fundraising purposes, for participation in a competition, or for primarily profit-making purposes.
  • Students in full-time education are not eligible to apply.

Scoring criteria

Applicants are scored against four key criteria:

1. Quality and artistic ambition of the project proposed (50%): As evidenced by:

  • Quality of proposed film script
  • Track record of personnel involved

2. Feasibility of the project in confirmed and committed resources (30%): As evidenced by:

  • Technical achievability: Can the proposal be realised within the timeframe and with the levels of finance and other resources evidenced in the application.
  • Letters of support or confirmation of funding
  • Clear budget including equitable payment to artists.

3. Cultural benefit for County Longford (20%): The application must demonstrate tangible benefits for the strategic development of art and culture within County Longford.

In addition to the above criteria, the company, artist or team must ensure compliance with all statutory requirements and local authority byelaws, including adherence to Child Protection Policy.

Submission Details

When applying, all of the following documents (PDF only) and assets are required from each team’s application: 

Writers 

  • A 10-minute industry-standard screenplay (maximum 12 pages)
  • A logline for the film (max 25 words)
  • A Synopsis for the film (max 300 words)
  • A signed declaration of ownership of all materials submitted
  • One-page CV containing relevant experience (biographies will not be accepted)

Directors 

  • One-page CV containing relevant experience (biographies will not be accepted)
  • Online link to your showreel, or previous work you have directed.
  • Director’s notes on the vision and planned execution for the submitted script.

Producers 

  • One-page CV containing relevant experience (biographies will not be accepted).
  • Online link to your showreel or previous work you have produced Producer’s notes on the on the vision and planned execution for the submitted script.
  • Budget for the production (Include any committed funding contributions and any in-kind resources)
