Call back soon for details of any future funding opportunities under this, or other, built-heritage grant schemes.
The Historic Structure Fund funds large-scale conservation works on significant heritage structures in need of urgent support. By supporting investment of private capital in labour-intensive projects, it helps to conserve historic structures in public and private ownership for community use. The fund also:
- Encourages regeneration and reuse of heritage properties to preserve protected structures and culturally significant assets
- Support employment in the conservation and construction industries
- Build resilience in our heritage properties to enable them to withstand the effects of climate change
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage also encourages
- projects to incorporate a traditional skills training element
- refurbishment or reuse projects involving heritage structures where a clear residential benefit is demonstrated. Such projects must be advanced through the planning process as necessary
Funding Streams
There are three Historic Structure Fund streams:
Stream One:
Grants from €15,000 to €50,000
For essential repairs and smaller capital works to refurbish and conserve heritage structures
Historic Shopfronts sub-stream under Stream One:
For conservation of historic shopfronts.
Each local authority may submit an additional application under Stream One for eligible essential repairs and small capital works to refurbish and conserve historic shop facades, windows, signage and other associated details. In addition, local authorities may make an additional application for Irish-language shopfronts.
Stream Two:
Grants from €50,000 to €200,000 for larger enhancement, refurbishment or reuse projects involving heritage structures.
A clear community, public or residential benefit must be demonstrated and such projects must be advanced through the planning process as necessary.
