Book launch of My Favourite Place by Brian Farrell in Ballymahon Library

30 people share stories of different local places around County Longford

Ballymahon Library will host an upcoming book launch of My Favourite Place by Brian Farrell on Monday, 10 March at 7.20pm. The book will be launched by well-known local historian and author Eamonn Brennan. All are welcome to attend. 

Funded by Creative Ireland, the book is published by Longford County Library, Archives, Arts and Heritage Services. My Favourite Place includes interviews with 30 people, each speaking about a place in County Longford that is special to them. Many are well-known, such as buildings and beauty spots, but others are hidden gems The storytellers are either Longford people or people who have strong local connections. In each case, the person is photographed at the place. 

Author Brian Farrell is a press photographer whose work has appeared in a variety of national newspapers. He has held exhibitions of his work, including in The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon. This new book from Brian was inspired by his previous book Longford Memories, which was produced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon shared his experiences contributing to the book. "I was delighted to be a part of this book and take the opportunity to highlight Corn Hll in County Longford. I look forward to reading through it and seeing all the other contributions. The Council is proud to support such important work to share our local places and local stories."

My Favourite Place will be available for sale in all six County Longford libraries for €10 after the book launch.
