This townland is situated on the road from the village of Legan to Ballinacarrow Bridge, and is surrounded by the townlands of Lissawarriff, Agharra, Castlewilder and Vicarstown in this parish, Legan and Smithfield in Kilglass Ph., and Fox hall, Furze and Kinard in the parish of Rathreagh.
It is the property of the Countess Dowager of Ross, held under lease for ever. It contains 557 acres, and is all cultivated except about 69 acres of bog. It pays to Co. Cess �20 16s. 9d. The road from Legan Village to Ballinacarrow Bridge passes through it. It contains a house, called Legan an Lodge, a demesne at Ardanragh Castle, a corn mill, an ancient fort, and the ruins of an ancient castle of the O'Ferrals.
