Longford Lights 2025, Ireland's largest community-based light festival, returns to Connolly Barracks in Longford Town in February next year. Tickets for the festival are now on sale on LongfordLights.ie and through festival partner Backstage Threatre in Longford.
Now entering its fourth year, the 2025 festival will be larger than ever before as it extends across four days, from Thursday, 20 February to Sunday, 23 February. For the first time, artwork and performances will extend through the streets of Longford Town. The number of artists and performers have also increased to 65 coming to Longford from eight different countries.
A central performance piece called ‘Metamorphosis’ will see singing, percussion, pyrotechnics and puppetry all brought together in a giant projection in Connolly Barracks. Created by artistic director Caroline Conway, composer Fiona Linnane, and directed by Ana Ortega from Cal y Canto Teatro, the piece brings together talented musicians and performers of different art forms.
Luminaria, a hit show of Longford’s Backstage Theatre, will features the theme of light and illumination and is an ideal show for children and young families. The show takes place in St John’s Hall, Church Street, Longford.
The festival is delivered and funded by Longford County Council in partnership with Mide Arts Group. Funding is also provided by The Arts Council, Creative Ireland, Longford Tourism, Longford Night Time Economy and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media. Backstage Theatre is a 2025 Longford Lights festival partner.
Over 11,000 visitors came from across the country to attend the 2024 festival, which had 23 artists and 43 schools and community organisations involved. They created 28 art installations made from thousands of lights. As with last year, 2025 will see community involvement as local groups and organisations will work with internationally and nationally celebrated artists to create the many art installations within the festival.

Tickets for Longford Lights 2025 are available from LongfordLights.ie and through festival partner Backstage Theatre in Longford. Thursday tickets are at a special reduced price of €15 for family tickets (two adults and two children), or €5 for one adult and €3 for one child. Friday to Sunday tickets is €20 for family tickets (two adults and two children), or €8 for one adult and €4 for one child. Under 3s go free. A carer who is accompanying a person with additional needs also goes free. Luminaria in St John’s Hall required a separate ticket and these are €15 for a family ticket or €5 for an individual ticket.
